If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.

Children come to our school from South Cerney, Cerney Wick, Somerford Keynes and other neighbouring villages.

Starting a new school is a very important step. We aim to cater for every child and are always happy to hear parents’ views.

EYFS – September Admissions

You will be sent a Common Application Form by Gloucestershire County Council to complete by 30th January for admission the following September, or this can be done online via the Local Authority’s portal. The Local Authority will send you your unique login details and password. New entrants may be admitted in the September before their fifth birthday. Children then spend three full years in the infant classes. Parents of the children who have been accepted, are invited to an informal meeting during the Summer Term before the child starts school. They are able to meet and talk with the teachers responsible for the youngest children and the Head Teacher. There will be ample opportunity for questions and discussions and the planning of future visits.

Admissions in September are staggered, enabling a small group of four year olds to begin each day. This helps to ensure that the children receive maximum attention during their first few days at school. In general terms, part-time attendance that gradually increases to full-time is best. Sometimes a very young child may prefer a long period of part-time attendance. This is perfectly possible. The time spent at home is still very rewarding and parents are asked not to rush their children, if such arrangements would be worth consideration. In all but exceptional circumstances, children will be offered full-time attendance by the October half-term.

A booklet is available from the school and playgroup called ‘A Good Start’ which provides useful tips and information on preparing your child.

In Year Admissions

Prospective parents should complete an In Year Admission Form provided by Gloucestershire County Council as well as our own Admission Form for the school. We ask that these completed forms be returned back to our school office as soon as possible so we can confirm if a place is available for your child in their year group. Forms can be found at the bottom of the page and can be sent back to us by post or electronically. Please note that the school is unable to offer a place for a child until two weeks before their expected start date, unless they are a service family. In this instance we can offer a school place a term before the place is required.

Parents moving into the district and wishing to send their child to this school are invited to contact the School Office for information and to arrange a visit if they would like to.

Our main feeder playgroups are in South Cerney and on the Duke of Gloucester Barracks. Details of the South Cerney playgroup are available by calling in during working sessions, every morning and some afternoons. They can also be contacted by telephone on 01285 860340.

Places are offered for September intake towards the end of March. Popular schools fill up and it is in everybody’s interest to register children as soon as possible.
