At Ann Edwards, we are proud of our own Forest School area within our school grounds. This is a mature woodland area which has been enjoyed by children across the school for many years.

We are also fortunate to have two Level 3 Forest School leaders who work in the school – Mrs Horne and Mrs Hanson – enabling us to provide Forest School provision for every class (from EYFS/Reception up to Year 6 inclusive) throughout the year. The children enjoy a whole afternoon every 2-3 weeks in this wonderful outdoor space throughout the year, come rain or shine. This provides the opportunity for the children to learn new skills and fully immerse themselves in the outdoor environment.

Forest School uses a holistic approach that encourages each child’s individual development which allows them to learn and achieve in their own way and at their own pace. We celebrate each child’s individuality and support them in improving their confidence and self-esteem as well as helping them develop their social, communication and emotional skills.

The Forest School environment supports the children’s physical and mental health, as well as enabling them to develop in our key values of respect, perseverance and creativity. Furthermore, through teamwork and connection with the natural environment, this form of outdoor learning supports their confidence, communication and resilience.
