We had an extremely creative first week back after the Easter holidays. It was Start with Art Week! The children spent the week busily engaging in different experiences, skills, techniques and collaborative Art work.
Our overarching theme this year was Out of this World! Each phase explored this theme through creating fantastical worlds and creatures, using various different materials, media and skills. The children explored the theme by creating mystical Modroc creatures, foam printing elements of their fantastical world and collaborating to create a whole class artwork.
We were very lucky to also have an artist in-residence visit. Local Artist Laurie Plant visited over two days and worked with our youngest children right up to Year 6. As well as demonstrating techniques and showcasing examples of his own work, the children explored drawing using charcoal on large A1 pieces of cartridge paper to produce imaginative observational drawings.
To finish our week off, the children explored our Ann Edwards Art Gallery. Each class toured the school and visited each class to see their creations on exhibit. The children had a fantastic, collaborative, creative, messy and most of all, fun Art week. We are very much looking forward to continuing to develop our skills during our Art lessons in Class.
Some of the children have shared how much they enjoyed the different elements of Art week:
“We learned how to do different shading and making our drawings more realistic. I enjoyed using my imagination and working as a team to create a piece of art together.” Year 4
” I liked the Modroc. It was fun and you got to get your hands dirty.” Year 1
” I got to draw on huge paper. We used big movements. We had lots of room to draw.” Reception
” I liked looking at the pictures the artist brought in. ” Year 2
” I liked being able to see other peoples Art and we got to see a real artist.” Year 2
” I enjoyed going around the classes. They (The Artwork) were very different. It inspired us to do more and inspired us for other Art work.” Year 4
” I liked trying printing with foam and pencils. It was hard, but fun. We were proud of our artwork.” Year 3
